ok so, this month ive had an annoying problem develop,
2001 reg (y) peugeot 206 1.4 8v petrol
1) when im driving along and clutch in to change gear the revs drop very slowly and pause at 2000rpm for a few seconds before comming to idle. once they are at idle they are steady, no fluctuation, it holds the idle perfectly.
2) when im driving along and i am stopping at traffic lights, when i clutch in and brake the revs 'bounce' up and down before comming to idle.
this only happens when im clutched in and braking to come to a complete stop. if im just operating the brake while in gear they dont bounce, if im just clutched in and not braking, they dont bounce but take forever to drop down to idle.
3) sometimes during problem 2 the 'bouncing' revs bounce so far below idle before they settle i.e as low as 200 revs that the engine gracefully cuts out, no warning.
when driving in gear the engines fine, pulls hard, sounds fine
no codes stored, no EML.
the revving problem is the same whether the engine is hot or cold, the bouncing rev problem when braking is worse when the engines warm (maybe this is because the automatic choke isnt on when the engines warm so the idles lower so its easier to cut out?)
i think that its probably got something to do with the throttle body or one of the sensors around that area, idle control valve, MAP, throttle position sensor? maybe its a mechanical probably and the throttle body isnt closing fully when i let my foot off causing the revs to keep artifically high? at quick inspection it looks like its working fine, but you never know lol

Sounds similar to the problem I had in the GTi.
I cleaned the ICV, throttle body, swapped the MAP sensor, new lambda sensor & bled the coolant system.

sounds like idle control valve...
but before ya go spending ya money get a compressor and blast air through the engine bay fuse box, might have water in there. i thought my idle control valve had gone once but it was water int fuse box. blasted it out and it stopped straight away!

its sound like similar issue i had an ICV... just clean it see if its any improvement. fails it need a new ICV

i say its the idle control valve - its having trouble coming down from speed and settling, hence Idle control valve.

I'd also say ICV. Give it a clean and see what its like then.

try the battery too. When my battery goes flat it struggles to catch idle when the revs drop. sometimes it bounces back up sometimes it just cuts out.

Similar problem with mine. Everytime it idled the revs just carried on dropping till engine died, as u said, with no warning. Cleaned out ICV and been fine ever since (touch wood) =]

it idle's fine, it almost seems as if braking somehow drags the revs below idle, it never stalls unless your braking, it might be an idle control valve problem though because the revs do drop really slowly
