I currently have to put about half a pint of oil into my 206 every 3 - 4 months and generally cover 1000 miles a month. I don't get any signs of any leaks or smoking from the engine so just wondered if this is normal or signs of an underlying problem.

It's an 05 plate 206 1.4 16v Sport. Prior to this i had a 54 plate Kia Picanto 1.1 SE and this used to take a small amount of oil from time to time and it makes me wonder if this is a common thing with new cars.

Going back may years i had a 405 GR 1.9 and this never used any oil.

That doesn't seem like alot of oil to be putting in to me. I use more than that.

I think thats pretty normal?

Thanks all. It get's driven reasonably hard but certainly not excessively. I brought the car back
in september after some 90 year old idiot side swiped me in the kia picanto i had previously and
it's gotta be said that this is a better car than the kia ever was. My only concern was that on cars i've
had in the past apart from the kia they've hardly ever used any oil and this seems to use more.

That said for £2500 with low mileage and full main dealer service history i'm more than happy just
need to giving it a real good clean up now that the weathers improving and maybe some minor mods.

Half a pint every 1000 miles seems a lot to me. Check again, it's going somewhere.

It's half a pint every 3-4000 miles blimey if i was using half a pint every 1000 i would be worried. It does hardly any motorway mileage as i live on the isle of wight. The nearest we have to a motorway is a length of dueal carriage way about 3/4 of a mile long lol

Thats not what he said.

If you read in your manual it says thats an acceptable amount to be using.

I've worked in a dealership for 7 years and that certainly doesn't seem a high amount to me.

I should have checked the manual sooner lol. It say's in there maximum oil useage 0.5l per 600 miles. Thats made me much happier

Engine is based one the EW10 in the GTi180, and they use a lot of oil as well.

But TBH, 280ml every 3000-4000 miles isn't bad, its only like 4-5% of the oil in the car. Should ideally change it every 5k anyway Wink
