sorry to flood.
my car seems to be plagued by problems.

every morning before i start the day.. the car would quite often vibrate for a good few minutes upon ignition + idling.

i would let the vibration subside before setting off, seems to go off after the car warms up. the vibration would never bother me through the day after that.

i was guessing that it was a cold temperature thing because if i spend the day at the mall, i dont have a viciously vibrating gear stick when i return. the whole car vibrates but you see it more on the gear stick due to its protruding nature.

if my memory serves me well, its worse on winter mornings.

Panel filter needs changed. I'm the same. A simple job and not too expensive.

God I wish mine was a simple panel filter replacement.

Does the following describe your problem.

Generally it will only do it when started for the first time each day or when the car had been left for at least 5 hours or more and cooled? does the car starts fine and fast idle at 1200rpm but as it slows to 1000rpm the car juddering/virbration gets worse? Is your car a 2.0 petrol?

If yes to all these it's probably the same problem I have which is sticking hydraulic tappets/lifters. It around £350-400 for 16 replacements (16 valve engine/one tappet per valve) and I got a particularly good quote of £200 labout for a 7 1/2 hour job.

Mine started off very minor last summer, just a little virbration through the gear stick, on some colder mornings you could feel the whole car judder slightly. Last winter is got a lot worse and the car actually started dropping down to only 1 or 2 cylinders making me restart a few times to get all 4 up and working. Then once warm no problems whatsoever.

I tried changing everything else first but nothing has solved the problem.

sounds just like it. it idles above 1000.. when it dips to 1000 it vibrates..
but when i start driving it goes away.

sure sounds costly.
if i leave it alone.. will the problem deteriorate ?

I thought it would hopefully sort itself out but mine has only got worse. As yours is showing early signs you could try adding some valve lifter treatment to the oil. This made mine quieter but my tappets are past the point of return. I don't know whether this stuff is available in Australia?

www.wilcodirect.co.uk/...ts_id=1111

If you Google this stuff it has mixed reviews for its effectiveness (it seems 50/50 whether or not it works) but for the cost may be worth a go. And try to ignore certain reviews from MG drivers who think this ruined their engines. It only cleaned the engine and revealed an underlying problem.

An engine flush and oil change too a good 5w40 fully synthetic oil could also help and may delay what I think may be the inevitable.

These would be your cheapest options to see if you get any improvement. But if I knew early on it was tappets I probably would have traded my car in at a garage before the problem was too noticeable. As it stand for me a garage would notice this problem no before too long, and even if I could hide the problem from a private buyer, I wouldn’t pass this problem on to some other poor sod to sort.
