alright guys! im back again with more cooling questions! i have a 800 mile drive to do in a few weeks time and im really worrying about the car!
i cannot get it to stay at 90 degrees when going 70 and thats only with me in the car, when i do the drive its going to have 3 people in their!
i've had a new rad, a new thermostat (when the headgasket got done 6 months ago and its overheated a few times since then) flushed the cooling, fresh coolant and ive even taken the air con condenser out to improve air flow!
I really need this sorted as i cannot afford for the head gasket to go again especially when im at the wrong end of the country!
the fan kicks in at 103 degrees but i've seen a few posts on here with people saying their fans kick in at 93?
I really dont know what else i can really do so any help would be smashing Very Happy

just in case anyone hasnt seen my other rants the cars a 1.4lx 8v 1999

yeah as soon as im going 70 for over a mile its goes up to 103 fan kicks in but wont go back down unless i slow down or put it in neutral, was overheating in traffic until i got my new rad..
although i dunno what its gonna be like when the weather gets hot!

Fan running at high or low speed?

If you are driving 70, it shouldn't overheat tbh because the cool air hitting the front of the car should cool the engine down.

The needle on the cluster is accurate isn't it? and the temp sensor?

No air in the cooling system?

there's no air in the coolant system, when i've tested the fan when its at a standstill it seems to run fast but i didnt know there was two speeds?
it mainly goes up on inclines obvs doesnt when im going downhill
as for the needle i have no idea how id know if it was accurate? and is the temp sensor built into the thermostat or not?

do you know of any good degreasers as it could still have quite a lot of oil in the system maybe?

yeah the cambelt was done when the headgasket was replaced, it hadnt been done since leaving the factory, headgasket was done 6000 miles ago at 90000

Water pump normally gets changed when the cambelt does. Did they do it?

not sure actually, gonna check the invoice now, if you change the water pump does the cambelt need doing at the same time?

MUST be NON bio Wink

Couple of tablets added to the expansion bottle when cold & take the car for a drive to get it nice & hot, smells lovely & also cleans all the crap out the cooling system at them same time better then stuff you can buy on the shelf.

also am going to replace the system coolant temperature sensor & the coolant temperature gauge sensor, where would be the best place to find them?
