As the title says, I'm having an issue with starting the car - this was out of the blue yesterday morning (was absolutely fine the evening before) but has happened each time I've tried to start it since.
It seems to turn over well, so I'm pretty sure it's not the starter motor or battery, but it splutters and won't catch. If you hold the accelerator to the floor and turn it over, it splutters a bit but eventually catches and fires up. Then it seems like there might be a bit of a misfire as it seems to judder whilst at idle, (although the revs don't seem to be moving).
I've had a search but can't find anything that seems to match this issue, any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how I could fix it would be great! (It's a 1999 GTi in case it helps).
Thanks in advance!

Same car as mine. Mine's a 2001 GTi. Great cars huh.
Answer to your question. It could be numerous factors from:
-Spark Plugs
-Injectors
-Auto-choke!?
Idle Control Valve
Map Sensor /O2 sensor
Fuel Lines / Fuel Filter
Possibly best to go through list and check off each item, till fault is found. Other wise get it on a diagnostic.

I'm having this problem, but it's not happening every time I start it. It also resets the clock when it eventually catches and there's a strange noise from behind the dash when I turn the key to unlock the steering wheel. Seems electrical and mechanical?
