Right i drove the car yesterday and my speedo was jumping all over the place and now has stoped all togeather but flickers now and then

the mile reset still works fine so i know its not the speedo drive sensor at fault so must be the clock itself

when i find a GTI clock will i just be able to replace the speedo and not the rest so i can keep my mileage? as im dont want to loose my mileage on the car as its quite low for its age(53k)

cheers kieron

Im pretty sure your milage is saved in your ECU and not on the speedo itself?

what year is your gti?

later phase 2 models save the mileage in the dial and in the dash and will always display the higher of the two. so if yours is a later one you'd need to find a clock that has a lower mileage on than yours.

If it's an earlier one, phase 1, it'll display whatever the dial has saved as it is not stored anywhere else.

I know this because I had to replace my dial display. Mine is the earlier phase 1.

Is it a phase one?

It's so easy to swap the whole dial cluster mate. It's just one torx screw and clip in. it'd be harder work just swapping the one dial, if that's even possible.

I swapped mine for a whole cluster then got the mileage corrected.

Non-plexed = mileage shows whats ever in the cluster
Plexed = shows which ever is the highest in the ECU and cluster

Relatively easy to change if you have a eeprom programmer

Your confusing phase 1 & 2 with non plexed & multiplexed

Multiplex was fitted 2 years before phase 2 car's came out.

Look in te back of your local autotrader. There'll be people that do digital mileage correction.

You should need to read the eeprom on non-plexed. You could use a tachopro on plexed
