Hi.Does anyone know how crankshaft should be aligned using timing position marks on its pulley for fitting timing belt?thanks.

on the fiesta ( i looked at one today ) its pins, on the crank there is a timing pin hole at the top of the pulley.

Take a read of this:

there's two timing pin holes one on the camshaft pulley and one in the flywheel, they need to be locked off together when replacing belt to ensure correct timing.

It is a 1.4 8v.there is a lock position hole on camshaft pulley but for crankshaft there is nothing to insert a locking pin.

If you scroll down to picture 7 in the link i posted it will show you where to insert the locking pin to lock the crankshaft.

yeah as above on the tu petrol engine i've all ways used an allen key with a slight bend in it. just above the starter motor , through the engine casing into the flywheel.

Yes thanks.when i removed the lower cover i noticed there are 2 marks i ve marked by red arrows.i thought they should be in line for correct adjustment.green arrow is where the camshaft hole could be locked.but as you see i should crank about 1/8 turn the cranksaft separately to make them in line.any idea about that?[img]

So long as the crankshaft and camshaft are locked off together when replacing the belt then i would ignore those marks. Also once the belts on double check correct timing by turning the engine over by hand 6 times and insert timing pins again to make sure the timing holes still line up.

yea the belt can be a tooth out and still run with out causeing any damage but it wouldn't run very well. Good luck you might have a much better car when you finished.

I found the locking hole for crankshaft and it is now ok.thank you for replies Very Happy
