Well i bought my car for £420 and was fully aware it was going to have problems... But £300 jeez...
Back Brakes (totally replaced)
Coil pack
Rear left brake light cover
Hand Brake Tightening
+ MOT Cost
£300.. Not happy but meh, got me a Purring 206 1.4!

They didn't use lube with you did they. I would have estimated half of that.

Why didnt you go to the breakers for the rear light and your local motor factors for the coil pack and the rear brake shoes? (Alot cheaper and very easy to do)
As when you got the car few days ago you you posted about what needed doing, I would of got them done before the mot.

Yeah learning curve i guess, i took it to a friends mechanic, and he took it for MOT to find out what needs doing.
next time will be different, and yeah like i said i did get it cheap and expected problems.
also forgot to mention needed new tyre, and it wasnt just the shoes on the breaks.

Second hand you could probably have got all the parts for £70, then by the looks of it around £70 labour maximum the only thing that isn't stupidly straight forward are the brakes.

Just a quick one, Can bad petrol effect power? Just after i had my car back, and the misfire fixed, it had this nice bit more of an umph. Drove around for about 2 hours ( not just driving, Had stuff to do lol ) But i went and put £20 petrol in and it is like it has lost that extra umph, misfire is not back, ticks over smothly, just lost that umph.

I don't know... it does seem reasonable, IF all the parts used were brand new. I paid £90 to have the rear drums seen too. An ignition coil, brand new is about £50, brake light £20, parts for brakes wouldn't have been cheap!
MOT cost could vary between £30 and £60!

If someone is charging £60 for a normal mot then report them to VOSA.
The maximum allowed test fee by law that a garage can charge for a mot test for a passenger car at the moment is £54.85.
