filler/paint isn't going to cost the best part of £250 like a pro refurb generally costs. |
You'd use filler and paint on wheels? A pro will shot blast, weld, machine and powder coat the front and backs of wheels. You can't do that DIY. |
Well if you're doing a DIY refurb you generally don't have the skills or the equipment for machining, shot blasting, welding and powder coating. So yes you would obviously use some sort of filler putty to regain any lost materials and then paint them..

many local place do sand blasting and powder coating very cheap.
few place in leeds cost about 15 quid per wheel. |
£15 per corner? Isn't it usually more like £40 |
well, you will have to remove the tyre yourself and refit the tyre+balance too.
they aren't going to touch your wheels if the tyre is on due to the workload.
so yeah, you would probably end up with a total bill of around 100 or so for 4 wheels.

Getting the tyre off and weighing it up wont be a problem got a machine at work that does that.
Would you say get them done by a pro then?

well, you can't beat those cheap shot blasting and powder coated!
in fact powder coated is more durable then paint too. unless you want some really special colour.

If you do decide to have a go yourself I have a alloy repair kit in my FS thread that has everything you would need to do it. I would however recommend getting them done properly though.
Yes I know I'm a cracking salesman.
