i have a 2004 gti180 which has a knocking noise, normally happens over bumpy roads, when pulling away and when turning at slower speeds.
being a mechanic myself i thought it would be no problem to find lol.
there is no play in any mounts, no movement in the spings etc when pulled (i have seached previous posts and read about top mounts etc) both front arb links have been changed, o/s/f track rod and track rod end replaced.
noise comes from o/s/f (well seems to come from there) it's pretty loud too!
as for the car you may know bit,it's JamieM's old car, i was registered on here when i first bought the car-seemed to be a regular on here!
also i have been reading the post about dyno results where most ppl say 165bhp is about normal-this one made 183.4bhp and 163ftlbs torque on its dyno run-any ideas why?!?
any hep with the noise is very much apprecited!!

Check the drive-shaft gaiters for the knocking noise

Yeah cv joints, usually they would make a knocking noise when turning at low speeds, but you being a mechanic I am sure you would have checked this, I really can't think of anything obvious at the moment

ha ha believe it or not i've tried the other mechanic route (well the rest of us at work!!) i would always expect cv joints to make more of a clicking noise and not so much noise over rough roads

not a mobile dyno- tcs performance in birchanger - they do have a mobile dyno but was their permanent one. it would make sense seeing as i raced another gti180 a few weeks ago and quite easily pulled away from it

I've heard of the engine mounts making knocking sounds before although I'm sure you've checked almost everything already
