Took my Sreg (1998) through a hand car wash the other day so was sat idle for around 20mins. Started off with temp gauge at 70'c and by the time i was finished 20mins later my gauge was waaay past 90 and my stop light had started to flash. Once i started driving again it quickly cooled back down to 70'c. Have also noticed that I never heard my fan come on and haven't done for months. Any ideas why it overheats so easily???

The relays on the fan or the connections will more than likely be shot on a car of this age
Take them out and clean and/or replace

the car will heat up when idle because there's no air flow cooling the rad and the pump is working slowly, but when it gets to about 90 the fan should come on to prevent it overheating. The fans not working

why did you leave car idling for 20 minutes, just curious, but relays or temp sensor do sound suspect.

Definately check the connections to the relays and the wiring to the underside of the relays holders. Best to use a multimeter to check the power supply too.
If they aren't rotten I'd be very surprised. It should be a regular service item on all 206's now.
