right well basically my girlfriend is wanting to learn to drive, she tried in a manual a while ago but just couldnt get the hang of it.
She really likes the 206's but i have heard some people say that the auto box is crap basically, so i would like opinions on it (especially from those who have had an auto 206) as you can pick a nice one up for good money with low mileage.
Cheers

I drove an auto 206 some time ago and to be completely honest it was terrible. Don't forget it will restrict what other vehicles she can drive: ie courtesy car.

Wouldn't it be easier to show her how to change gear? Just explain what a clutch is and what it does and all that jazz. That's what I did with my sister and she soon did it

Practice practice practice.
An auto only license seriously restricts her choice of cars.
206 auto - better of walking.
If she cant get the hang of a clutch & manual box should she even be thinking of driving.

Get one of those controllers for an Xbox or Playstation that's a steering wheel & pedals. Save your clutch that way

It's not that bad. Though I agree, one of the shittier boxes. tbh, I don't think your gf will care/notice.

I have two Pug 306 autos with the same AL4 auto box and they're absolutely super. It all depends how well you look after them. I have one on 96K miles now and it's a beauty of a drive
Auto is the way to go, it's the future, once all cars are electric there will be no need for all this macho clutch and gears nonsense
If you want manual gear selection too sometime in the future then look at semi autos which her auto licence will cover her for too. Manual AND auto in one car- you choose- utter magic! Although most people get fed up with the manual side of things when the auto can do it better and quicker than you
Don't listen to the "I want you to struggle the same as I did" merchants, all most people want to do is get from A to B without needing an engineering degree to do it. Your girlfriend will be MUCH safer too if she is concentrating more on things around her than all this clutch and gears all the time. No clutch- no gears- no fuss- no tears
Wash all your clothes by hand rather than use the auto washer? Perhaps not.
If you're driving in city traffic most of the time then a manual is an absolute ball ache. If I'm going into town I'll take the auto every time.
Take it for a drive yourself, then try it in Sport mode, it'll open your eyes a bit!

I'm not sure. My dad had a 206 1.6 petrol auto for a very short period of time. Everytime it changed gear it nearly threw you out of your seat it was that jerky. And downshifts when you try and overtake someone take an absolute age
