Having trouble with the horn sounding off due to a possible wiring fault and the only way to stop it from constantly sounding off is to remove the fuse.
Fuse Box in the engine bay
F5......20/30A....Horn, sidelights, front foglight.
BUT although it sorted the horn issue, now the Number plate light, the Ashtray light and the lights for my dials do not work, but these are supposed to be protected by a fuse inside the car under the steering column.
Interior Drivers Side Fuse Box
F18....10A.........Number plate light,lighter illumination, clock, multi/funct display, interior illum.
I have checked F18 and it has not blown but i replaced it anyway with a new 10A to see if it changed anything and it didn't so im presuming the only way to get them to work again is to replace F5 under the bonnet, but if i do that i have to drive around with the horn constantly going off. I have only just bought the car and so have no spare cash for an auto elaectrician and was hoping some genius on here could poss help me diagnose so.....Does anyone know what the problem could be as to why F5 also does the job of F18?

It would help if we knew if it was multi-plexed or not. If it is I would strongly say the fuse box in the engine bay.

Thanks Rob and sorry for sounding like a div but what exactly are you suggesting regarding the fuse box in the engine bay??
It would help if we knew if it was multi-plexed or not. If it is I would strongly say the fuse box in the engine bay.

Put the fuse in, and cut the horn wire/replace the horn?

Why is no one mentioning the horn switch? The thing that actually turns the horn off and on?
Disconnect the horn by removing its connector (Don't cut the wire)
Replace all fuses you've removed
Investigate in the blissful silence if/why the horn switch is supplying power the horn when it shouldn't be
If the horn is connected to an alarm system that is triggering the horn then investigate what's wrong with that

Tho it could be a fault with the loom behind the steering wheel that turn when you turn steering wheel (can't remember what it's called) does turning streering wheel makes any difference?
Or even a relay stuck on if it has one,

I think I side with Ben, the horn on the wheel is a switch.. When pressed in it completes the circuit. If the switch is faulty there is nothing to break the circuit and you get a constant sound

OK guys thanks for all your comments just wanted to add this pic and to tell you when i replaced the fuse all was quiet until i went to put the steering column cover back on and notice when i touched the connecter in the photo it sounded the horn when i let go it stops, dodgy wire? if so which wire? the one going to the grey plug or one of the other 2?
Hope you are all following.. so sorry if im blabbering on, im new to PUG world and dont have a Haynes yet!

Even with Haynes it's a mystery half the time with their "typical wiring"
But anyway, you've found the fault location so I'd have a good inspection of the connector and see what is making the connection between input and output. Check which terminal and wire has supply voltage on it and then you need to find out what is bridging the connection to the output wire, corrosion? sliver of metal? crushed wires?

thanks for that but you may aswell have wrote it in chinese lol, i will have a word with my brother and see if he can make sense of your advice, thanks very much for your help though, any idea why when i removed fuse 5 in engine bay my lights for my dials, rear reg plate and ashtray dont light up when these are supposed to be on fuse 18 under steering column, i have a pre plexed 206, thanks.  Which is the output wire?

Ha! The other one, the one that isn't the supply to the horn switch.
Can't see from your photo but there will be 12v going in to the switch and then, when the switch is working correctly at any rate, there will be 12v coming out but only when the horn switch is pressed. At the moment you'll have 12v on both as the horn is on constantly
If anyone has horn wiring diag for a preplexed then post it up pls as I only have MUX
The reason you have seemingly two fuses doing the same job is that they are step down fuses. The larger current fuse deals with a number of sub systems whereas the lower current fuse deals with either one or just a few lower power systems

 wiring diagram!! i wouldnt be able to make sense of one of those,  could do with one of those books they do for Dummies i think, how about some nice colourful photos, with easy to follow step by step instructions, that would great.
i have also noticed 2 orange plugs under there not sure but after reading a few threads am i right in thinking these are for the airbag and should infact be connected to each other?

Yes, orange connectors are airbag
Your horn circuit should be a fairly simple one and look like this
Battery>fuse> horn switch>horn>earth
But without a wiring diagram then I can't help you with wire colours
