Hi,
When changing the coolant should the engine be hot or cold?
Cheers

To drain all your old coolant out you need to get the engine warm enough to get the thermostat open, then drain from the bottom hose & take the cap off. Don't forget to turn your heater controls to hot.

Cheers,
Just a quick question, I've just checked the coolant in the car now and its clear. It feels like its got something in it and its not water. Never seen clear coolant before.

If in doubt change it. Or at least get the specific gravity checked to know it'll do it's job in the winter.

Well it's all changed now. Didn't have any problems. Bled the system ok. The temp seems a little bit more stable now do that's good. When sat in traffic the temp goes upto about 95-98 then the fan kicks in. When driving it sty at 80 degrees. Is that normal. Oh its the gti 138 if that makes a difference.
Cheers

Peugeot / Citroen have been using that clear OAT type coolant for years, sounds like it was still on the original factory fill of coolant.

As soon as the coolant is away from the thermostat it will shut!
You don't drain coolant from a hot engine. Thermostat is in the top hose. As soon as the bottom hose is removed or the drain plug opened the coolant will flow from the reservoir through the system and out the lowest point - all except the coolant in the bottom of the block.
To flush all the old coolant out you need to run a hose though the system.
