Hi guys,
Looking for a rear beam rebuild kit for my GTI as I don't want to risk buying a 2nd hand beam.
Cheapest set I've come across is around 80 quid for both sides. Does that sound like a decent price or can I get them cheaper elsewhere?

If you're talking about the roller bearing kits then yea, not a bad deal. Although a ' rebuild' would
Really be a total strip down replacing any worn parts

Probably the bushes on the top, when they are worn the rear knocks pretty badly but they are pretty expensive to replace, think when i checked it was about £100 for the 4 from pug :S

depends how old really. my rear beam @ 12yrs old needed new needle roller bearings, new bushes, and possibly needs new stub axles/bearings.
i've also replaced the rubber bump stops as well as removing all the torsion bars and reconditioned the whole lot, painted etc etc.
upto you how far you go but cost wise it shouldnt exceed £200 and tbh its much more trustworthy than a second hand beam and much cheaper than a recon'd beam from ebay/elsewhere.

thats what ive spent on 4 bushes, two roller bearing kits, two bump stops and two stub axles. not that bad really.

Did you get all the parts from the dealers? £200 for the lot doesn't seem too bad considering it should last a good few years.

i was going to recondition my axle bushes and got told it was a right c**t to do so just went for 2nd hand axel just check see if its got any play

I don't really want to risk it on a 2nd hand beam, would always be playing on my mind as I know how pants they are. I'll either recondition mine or find one thats already done at a decent price

I have 2 disc beams sat in work that I may possibly refurbish at the same time as mine but that's dependent on the demand for them. I can't really afford to spend the cash on them to find that I can't sell them on easily.

NNNOOOO. never bother with dealer parts anymore. always use motorfactors (as i get -VAT courtesy of a mate). For me its just it was cheaper than getting it recon'd/buying a recon'd beam. Its not difficult to strip down, clean, paint up and put back together. just make sure you note the height of the trailing arms! (or you'll have to set it up all over again).
looking at the state of the parts I replaced, theyd never been replaced before and over 12yrs 200quid aint too shabby.
