Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can help.
My 1.9d will not start this morning. It cranks away and fuel is being pumped through - I can smell it.
My main suspicion is the glow plugs aren't turning on. The light on the dashboard has never turned on! Even when it was below 0 outside.
I tried scanning the ecu with a pug scantool but it said the obd port was dead.
I've read around on the net and there were a few threads about the ECU multi function relay dying and taking out the rev counter (which doesn't work), the glow plug relay drive and the obd port power feed. All sounds likely. I've bought one, but can't fit it as I can't find it on the car. In fact, I can't even find an ECU.
Any ideas?

lol. The starter is spinning the crank fine.
It looks like I have fuel pressure - I think this because the fuel lines to the injectors are weeping fuel. So I'm not (yet) thinking it is the fuel imobiliser issue.

Does it crack consistently or die off (ie definately not just a firing battery).

Yep, sits there at 150rpm ish on the starter. Can sit there for minutes - should I wish to flatten battery. Doesn't slow down or even try to fire.

hi, as it's cranking it could be that the chip reader on steering lock cylinder isn't reading the chip

Immo is on the fuel pump on this old car.
Fuel relay is a big brown thing with about 15 pins.

So the stop solenoid imobiliser system has given up? Any tips for testing this? There is fuel leaking out of the injector pipes which I thought would suggest that the stop solenoid is working. I'm probably wrong though.

Definetly the glow plug control/relay. I've got the engine running by putting a jump start lead across from the VBatt + to the glow plug line (after disconnecting the original feed). Starts straight away!
So, I bought a new multi function ecu relay. But where does it go? According to the haynes manual it is under the ecu. According to the haynes manual the ecu is on the right hand side of the engine bay. I can find a steel plate but it does not have an ecu that I recognise. It has a small black box. There is no multi function relay underneath it.

That's odd, a diesel should start, albeit reluctantly, after a lot of turning over if the glowplugs have gone, even in this weather:

It won't. I can crank for ever, then one touch of the feed to the batt and up she starts. My friends Citreon (xud9) was exactly the same (even in the summer).
