I've been to the machanic today for the 1st time since buying my car back in July 2011 and what a horrible day it was.
I felt previously no need to take the car as when I bought it it had a years MOT on it so i imagined it to be perfect. I took it in today just to get the all clear before I eventually MOT it myself.
I've got a longer list than anticipated and have no idea where I'll get the money from to repair it so I thought i'd enlist in you guys to help me/ point me in the general direction to find cheap(er) parts.

It's a 1.4lx W reg

I need....
5x brake pipes
3x tyre's
Exhaust system
2x suspension arms
CV Boots
Tracking
Discs + pads!!
Track rod ends
And a bit of luck not to get pulled by the police for 3 illegal tyre's.

I don't even know what some of thesIe parts are.
The machanic says he can get them all and it will cost me roughly £400/£500.
Am I being taken for a ride or is this a reasonable price?

Any idea of what I am looking for in terms of actual part names if I was to source these parts myself? I have a rough idea but just need a bit of reassurance before I spend what ever little money I actually have

Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance guys

Shop around. Take the list of stuff to a few shops. But sounds about fair to me. But to help you with parts we will need to know what car it is first.

If that price includes labour its not too bad.

snap his hand off for that price. unless he's using second hand parts and part worn tyres i cant see how he could possibly make that job pay.
This 206 IS going on a trackday despite it's every effort to stay at home in the garage!

Is that including labour that £400/£500? Parts come to nearly that price alone?

Sounds a good price to me, you should probably check your tyres more often if you have 3 bald ones though.

Sounds like a good price. You're probably looking more than £200 for just the exhaust and tyres!

Sounds pretty good to me too, but I bet that price doesn't include labour. You'll get to learn that 206's need plenty of TLC and regular checks to keep them running well. Good Luck

I'd be getting a second opinion!

Does it really need discs as well as pads?

Does it need a FULL exhaust system or a backbox? Is it noisy?

etc etc

If that car came from a dealer, sounds like a dodgy MOT test to me .. unless the OP has been a little hard on the 206 in the last 6 months! Wink

Sorry, but before you purchased the car you should have noticed the discs and pads, the tyres and the brake pipes at least Confused

A lot of this is wear and tear. Get a second opinion.

3 illegal tyres? This sort of thing justifies not moving to MOTs every 2 years.
