Morning all,
If been thinking for a while now of buying a younger no powerful 206 to use as a my daily and keep my old one to use as a track car.
My question is this, does a track car need an MOT?
I did a search on here but coldnt find an answer.
Thanks

Depends if you are going to drive it on the road. If yes then Mot is needed. If you are going to transport it to track days then no. But I'm sure you have to declare it sorn or something like that.

If your trailoring it then no, you dont need an mot, but you do need to ensure the car is safe or you wont be allowed on track. However check your licence allows you to tow enough weight to cover the tow car, trailor and trackcar, and also that the tow car has a high enough towing capacity. You will need to declare it sorn or you WILL be fined for not having insurance.
If your going to drive it there and back (as i do) then make sure you find a friendly mot'er.

Have you ever been on a trackday?
Most trackdays want some kind of evidence that your car is safe, and a lot of them will insist that "track day" cars are MoT'd for this reason, unless you can provide an alternate reason eg the car has been scrutineered for a race event recently. Worth checking up with whoever does track days at your local circuit.

I used to attend track days at least twice a month and not once have I had to supply a mot. Granted I have not done so myself in a few years but I know people that still do and would say your above comment is bobbins.

We always have to produce an MOT cert for rallies even though we are on circuits or airfields and dont need tax... the scrutineer only has to do half a job then. Trackdays can be different and they only insist on seeing your license (both parts)

I think my original post covered the MOT bit by saying it needs to be safe if it doesn't have an MOT. If you have ever been on a trackday you would realise alot of the cars wouldn't have a chance at passing an MOT as they are ex (or current) championship cars.

if your car isnt safe and you manage to get on track the marshals will notice it unsafe and you'll be black flaggeed anyway
EDIT plus who drives a unsafe car?

I've never been asked to produce the certificate either, but its something they want, and is buried in the small print of the T&Cs you sign when you enter one.

Paul_c, an MOT doesn't mean a car is safe / not safe.
IMO its a bloody nuisance and waste of time and money!
