So i took my gran out today and for the first time i didn't have the radio up, there seems to be a knocking noise coming (i think) from the rear when i'm going around the country lanes, also when i get out of the car the rear suspension creaks as it settles back into place.

Ima take a guess and say it's the rear beam but what other possiblities are there? also is this a problem just starting to appear or does it mean it's gone the full whack and i need to replace the axle?

"if someone has put it together then I will take it apart" it might never work again but at least I will have an understanding of how it worked and might be able to buy another

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!!

The bearings on the rear axle can be replaced cheaply / easily enough IF you catch it in time.

Leave it to long with failing bearings & you will end up needing a replacement beam.

To save making a new thread, I also have a quiet knocking (sounds like horseshoes on pavement) coming from the back when going slowly, but isn't there when up to speed.

Sorry to hijack OP, might help your problem.

I had a knocking noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel, turns out to be the exhaust knocking against the bumper!
I.C.E killed my car.

My car always creaks when applying the handbrake or when getting out of the car. Thought it was normal?

Havent you only just got the car? Did you not hear this on the test drive?

I would take it back to the garage where you got it from and see what they say before you start buying things out of your own pocket.

i didn't hear it when i test drove it, i brought it from a private seller not a garage Smile the noise doesnt really bother me it was just my gran that pointed it out, i drove my 306 for a year with a collapsed beam before i got round to it :), i'll check the exhaust first and remove everything out of the boot
