looking at some fault code scanners and seen they say OBDII(2) for 2001 onwards my 206 gti is a 2001 would this work on my vehicle or would it have to be a 2002 model as the scanners say 2001 onwards

If your car has ISO 9141 - 2 protocol then yes it will work
