Evening dudes

Drove home from work before, giving it 'Welly' as my boss calls it out of the car park. He said the thing stank of petrol and was putting out a decent amount of smoke/whatever you wanna call it from the exhaust. He said he instantly thought overfuelling.

I wasnt too sure but i have been getting some pretty un-impressive mpg (I know the 206 isnt that good) But ive been getting about 100 miles to 20 quid ~ 15 liters of fuel with extreme granny driving.

Any ideas guys? Any opinion much appreciated and ill try get a video up of the exhaust when the phone cable has been found Razz

Mike

Its had a k&n kit on it, but that's not changed the fuel consumption at all, its been exactly the same as i'm pretty anal about gauging my miles/liters etc haha Smile

What engine is it?
Is the smoke and fuel smell mostly on tickover? This is where the lambda sensor is giving ECU feedback to help it finely tune the fuel/air mixture. Lambda sensor is huge factor for good mpg under steady rpm conditions so I'd check out the readings from it and make sure it's heater is working. Suddenly losing around a 1/3rd of your expected mpg is more often lambda sensor. But don't just change it, check it out, it could simply be a poor connection

1.4 8v (sorry lol)
And the smell is on revving, chucks out a fairly large amount of smoke (though usually only when cold)
Had the lambda done recently but can check for poor connections, hopefully solve this problem Smile

"the smell is on revving, chucks out a fairly large amount of smoke (though usually only when cold)"
ok that won't be the lambda then

Colour of smoke will be a clue blue = oil, white = steam = water, black = carbon= fuel.

Is it misfiring when throwing out smoke? Are the plugs and gaps good? Look at the plugs and see what the colour and size of deposits tell you

Doesnt seem to be misfiring, All the plugs & packs etc were sorted out along with the lambda a couple of months ago.

Take a look Smile www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBYiUufWxcY

if you smell the smoke is quite easy to tell if it is petrol or oil

Difficult to tell from 3 secs of video. Is Utube charging these days per minute? Smile

Looks like it's water vapour as it disperses and disappears quickly. If it was a stone cold engine then that might well be condensation in the exhaust.

If there's any sign of mayo in the rocker cover or you're losing coolant then it might be head gasket
