I have this car since it was new, I bought it 12 yrs ago, I loved it, I decided to keep it although I'm planning to get another car, and I will leave this one for my wife may be.

The car is 12 yrs old as I said, it is 1.4 8v 2000>, done 200K miles, now it is beginning to consume 1/2 litre of motor oil every 1.5K miles, I used to use fully synthetic mobil 1 oil with 5W-50 oil weight to suit the hot climate in Egypt, I switched recenlty to mobile XHP 20W-50 after the consumption sign appear, Is this wise? or I should keep doing with the synthetic oil better?

By the way: there is no smoking from the exhaust, there is no external leakage.

Please advise.

Thank you.

I don't think it's the change in oil that's the problem if it's burning oil thers somthing wrong internal such as piston rings or oil seal/stem seal, I would try and switch back and see if it makes a difference with an oil change(back to what you used to use) and filter.
