Had this since i bought the car, so thought i would get round to sorting it.
As the revs go up there is a high pitch whine coming from the power steering pump area. Is there any common issues with the pump to cause this or could it be something else in th same area?
Any input welcome.
Phil.

Hahaha, yeah i checked it then did a drain and flush. Filled with slick 50 steering fluid. No real change.

when did you hear the noise?
Is the noise still there when the steering wheel is straight?

Its there all the time, in neutral, in gear, wheels straight and when turning. what noises do the pulleys tend to make on the aux belt if they are failing?

it can be the power steering pump,it can be the alternator,it can be the Aux. belt,or the Aux. belt bearings and tensioner ,so you need to check it all.

Is it easy enough to get the belt off to change them? How do you release the tensioner?

Its the tensioner 'because I had the same problem with mine.
On a 1.4, it's p**s easy. Not sure about a GTI.

Could be a few things, might be a noisy alternator. Or if its the tensioner its pretty simple to remove, 16mm spanner to release the tensioner to take the bellt off on the gti.

Do I need to get the tensioner too or just the tensioner pulley?
