Hi guys my 180 seems to have always had an oil leak from around the filter, I had the filter changed and filled the oil up hoping that would sort it but 3 months later my oil level was seriously low and there was an oily mess around the filter. There always seems to be a drip on the end of the filter, and some overspray over close pipes. Wondering if anyone has had the same problem, cause I'm going to be topping the oil up every 3 months at this rate. Could the housing be damaged or is there something inside the housing e.g. Rubber seels!

Thanks lewis

when you change the oil filter, you have to change the O ring too, other wise you will have a leak, but try to clean it,to see exactly where the oil come from.

I've wiped it down and I'm sure its coming from round the edge of the filter and spraying over other stuff when its under pressure!

I didn't change the filter, it was done at the garage! i may try change this! when i unscrew the filter i shouldn't lose too much oil should i cause it will all be in the sump?!?!

It sounds like I have the same leak as this! It just seems to drip off the end of the oil filter. I've tried researching it and somebody suggested that there's a seal in the housing, just above the filter but have decided to just top up the oil 'till it's next service and look at it then. If you manage to cure it I'd be interested to hear what you do Smile

Engine oil + hot exhaust = fire Rolling On The Floor Laughing

Oil leaks should really be fixed ASAP before they get any worse.

If pressurised oil starts spraying around the engine bay at best its gonna make a mess & at worse it can bbq the car if it comes in to contact with a hot exhaust.

Change the oil and the filter and make sure you replace the o ring seals as said above Smile you need it sorting, I'd clean all the oil off with a rag soaked in jizzer just to be sure but don't put it on the exhaust Laughing

Think you need to keep your special cleaning methods to yourself.
