Which car?
Chances are it's just a 10mm bolt holding it onto the gearbox. You'll need to take the battery and box out to access it though.

Very very easy. I always did it without taking anything else out on 1.4i.
But why replace it? Do you suspect it has failed?

because the garage said it needs to be replaced to resolve the intermittent problem.
