My 206 1.4hdi has developed a loud banging when hitting potholes/bumps, on my way to work today a kind natured bloke let me know he had been following me and had seen my rear offside wheel wobbling as i went over bumps etc.
As per my earlier post, my wheels have just been balanced so i checked the wheel nuts just in case my garage had done a sloppy job but all was well, I then jacked up the car to check for any obvious play but again found nothing.
A google search or two later i found many posts suggesting a common problem with 206's in that the rear beam bearings often fail.
Can anyone explain how i can check for this myself?
Apologies if i have rambled on but thought it best to give the whole story....

If your axle is gone/going
Jack the rear end up and try wobbling the wheel then if it wobbles the bearings on there way out, it could be your ARB that is loose and may need squeezing together at both ends to stop it clanging.

my rear wheel started wobbling like mad after a crash hitting the wheel into an embankment, took it to the garage they took the wheel off then the drum and there was a huge crack inside,
Sujest you look and take the wheel off and drum,

let put it this way, if a failing bearing cause the axle to wobble, it will be too late to repair the axle
