My sons car developed a gear selector problem this morning at 5am! Clutch still seems to work but major trouble engaging gears. Is there a linkage arrangement which may have failed?

He was going along M25 in 5th gear. Pulled over and then couldnt engage any gears. He said it was like it was stuck in 5th. When he started it it stalled unless he depressed the clutch. Then all he could get was 5th. He eventually managed to limp back home only using 5th.

Behind the engine, check the gear linkages. They do pop off over time.

will be hard to see the linkage unless you remove the battery box
