Hi all, had my 180 for a year and a half now and love it to bits.
Am getting a problem when starting it, sometimes nothing happens when I turn the key apart from a hopeful 'click' from the solenoid. It bumps first time, tried rocking it in gear to move the starter position and battery is fine.
First thought was 'brushes' so I went to investigate, starter motor is hidden away under the inlet manifold?? (should have expected that having owned a 205 gti!!)
Have checked battery strap resistances (both seem fine)
So to cut to my questions:
1) Is it possible to get at the starter without removing the inlet manifold?
2) Anyone experienced a similar problem and have any suggestions that I may of overlooked?

Thanks guys Smile

Lol, might be.. Only met the blokes wife but it had 46k on the clock when I bought it.
I've been waiting for dash lights to go off and fuel pump to stop :-/
Really just want to know if there is a way to get at the starter without removing quarter of the engine Smile
Should have known I'd need to buy an entire set of wiring and a huge pot of Vaseline to smear all the connections (because as everyone knows it never rains in France so they don't plan for wet weather and the effects it has on a car!)

I think u have to take the inlet manifold off to get to the starter it's a easy job just time consuming lol

Solved.

Dismantled, removed starter (a job which I can confirm require removal of inlet manifold of on 04 model at least!) and cleaned out quite a lot of worn magnet from said starter, which must have been jamming the starter in place untill bumped or jolted sufficiently.
I've lubricated it and refit.
Working sweet as a nut
