Ive been searching all morning and can only find topics about locking 'bouncing' when used..

My problem, as usual, is slighly different to the norm..

Basically, my girlfriend has a 2002 206 LX, pre-facelift. Had it 3/4 months now and all has been fine apart from the last 3/4 weeks...

She has been complaining that the central locking wont work on the fob, only when using the key. I changed the battery at the begining but made no difference.

I got bored of her moaning so decided to take a proper look at it today, and here is the problem...

It intermitantly locks/unlocks on the button. It seems to lock/unlock around 5 times then stops for abit, then works again for abit then stops.

When it stops, i tried to lock the car via the key and it only locked the door i was locking, not all of them, as though the central locking wasnt working.

As said, i left it unlocked for 5mins came back and it worked.

I sat inside it and tried to lock/unlock, it didnt work. I held the fob upto the ignition barrell and tried to lock and it worked perfectly.

i tried to resync, i held the unlock button, put it in the ignition, turned ignition on n held for 10 seconds. Nothing happend. Tried again with the lock button, nothing happened.

This is the fob the car has:

Fob

Dont really know what to try now

Also, i replaced the fob casing (only the rubber button side) when i got the car as the rubber were split, dont know if that will have any affect. I removed the circuit board and tried again and it was the same.

Any helpers?

The BSI unit disables the central locking system for a short while after repeated 5 lock / unlock cycles to stop the locking motors from burning out.

Check the buttons on the pcb are not faulty / cracked or dry solder joints.

To resync the key on a multiplexed 206, start the engine then press & hold the lock button for 10 seconds.

The keyfob gave the game away with the multiplexing.

Check the buttons on the pcb as they can break / fail with age / repeated use.

Printed Circuit Board inside the keyfob.

The buttons soldered on to it can fail / the solder joints can also break.

Mine was the same, got a repair kit of eBay consisting of 2 new buttons, new blade and a new case for around £3.50 delivered.

After replacing both buttons (use a 15w soldering iron) and the case to make look new it works perfect now.

If you do the same remember to swap the transponder into the new case - i forgot and nearly had a heart attack when to car wouldn't start, i thought I'd screwed up the PCB when replacing switches lol. Soon realised what I'd done though Smile
