So I needed to change my coolant today. I open the bottom and top hoses of the radiator and let the old week dead stuff out. I flushed the radiator with a hose no problem, but when it came to the engine block, I couldn't seem to get much out of the bottom hose when I pushed the hose through the top. No matter, I did the hoses back up, used Holt fast flush, did its thing, drained it and though hmmm, I should do a proper flush...
So I took the battery out, went to remove the thermostat, got as far as the hoses and went uhh, I cant get that thing off. So I did it all back up again, topped the system with water and did a water only run before flushing it. I then finally topped it up with 3 litres of antifreeze (6 litre capacity) and the rest water. Ran it, topping it up as I went and now it is done.
SO, have I made a c**k up by not releasing the other bleed values and thermostat and bits, or am I safe and have done a good job?

Your an idiot
What i use in NON biogenic washing powder to thoroughly clean the system by adding it to the original stuff and running the car for a while
Remove the expansion cap, bottom hose and rear heater hose (if you want you can crank the engine with the coil disconnected to further push the water round)
You may have damaged the thermostat's seal which means if it leaks you need to re seal it. Bled the engine when cold, under pressure and when hot from the two bleed screws

With the thermostat thing, I unclipped the hose with the white push button, but nothing else, so no dodgy pushing and pulling. Also, I did a fulll system of water plus the holt stuff, not just hot toxic holt flush.

i can tell you holt radflush is useless. it is just lime scale remover and is way over price
and as if the system is filled with proper coolant before; there shouldn't be any lime scale in there

What is meant by non-bio / non-biogenic?
Are we talking washing-up liquid (fairy) or washing machine powder (Ariel)?

Who cares as long as you flush it and the water turns clear with a nice flow, and with the antifreeze back in the system it doesn't freeze up and it doesn't get too hot (no air locks) that's all you want.

the heating works great too. Really hot on blow 1 and full heat within 10 minutes! I had to open the window it was that hot. I guess that means the cooling system is efficiently removing heat from the system?
