I have had this problem for a long time now but it is getting worse. Its not very simple.

Symptoms:

Going over a poor road surface the car skips and is upset more than it used to be by bumps especially when accelerating.

At higher speeds (50mph+) The car tends to pull randomly to ether side. Like I have yanked the wheel or been hit by a big gust of wind. This makes motorway driving feel quite unstable. This also happens when cornering. It is coming to the point where I could be cornering at speed and it could potentialy cause me to loose the back end.

Yes it could be a number of things but I have ruled out a numper of them.

Tracking
Tyre pressure
Balancing
Wheel buckling

Also there is no play in the wheels; that rules out things like track rods, trailing arms and wishbone bushes.

That left me with 2 ideas; Drop links and Shockers. The drop links however would make a noise if work like a banging or clunking. It doesn't seem to be the shocks ether becase if you push the car up and down the shocks seem to rebound fine.

I have spoken to a number of mechanics and they don't know ether.

have you check the spring?

it might have broken or came off from the cap.

I'm having the exact same issue with mine, it seems to be since i got my tracking donw though, took it back and it got done again and it improved slightly, mine is the same it does it at high speeds it pulls to the right suddenly and when i go around a roundabout at normal speed too, it doesnt do it however when i turning right at a junction for instance or turning left, just tends to be roundabouts and high speeds.

I have two fairly new wishbones, should be less than 6 months old I think. How can I tell visually when looking at the top mounts.

no you can't tell just by looking at it.

if the topmount bearing fail you will hearing knocking noise when you turn your steering wheel.

please help I Have this exact thing you explained it exactly how I have its more when steering left and at higher speeds it's like the steering has a mind of its own .. it started when I put alloys on drove it home and it was fine .. took it to be tracked and this stuff started .. I took it back and told them and they found that one of my alloys was loose .. don't no how but it was .. anyway they said that wad what the problem was .. anyway all the alloys are perfectly fine but it's still doing this and the tracking place hasn't really Done anything to make it better they just keep 're tracking it but it's still just as bad .. I don't no what to do because I can't even describe it and it's dangerous to drive in my opinion it's like I'm fighting the steering !!! I don't have much of a clue what to check my self!

Probably the wishbone ball joins have play in your case. When you fit wider tyres the wondering in the steering is more noticeable. Had this issue twice before.
