My firend told me last night that she was driving and her petrol light came on (she had let her petrol get low so nothing strange there), she said that then her STOP warning light came on and she could smell a burning smell. She filed up with petrol but the STOP light remained on.
I am going to look at it this morning and just wanted a check list of what might cause the STOP light to come on.
She did not no what engine size it was or the year , but she did know it was petrol and not a GTI.
Thanks for your help

Fogot to add, if say it is the brake fluid level and I top it up, will the light go out or will it need to be reset and is this only possible with a code reader?

You will need to use a code reader. read the codes, fix the fault and the light will probably go out. You will need to get the codes cleared as it will be stored.
There are quite a few people on here with code readers, both generic and Peugeot Planet. Most will read codes for a few beer tokens. It's just a case of finding someone near you.
