Is there a reace series dedicated to our beloved 206????

I see Razza has been chucking his gti around a club series, is there one dedicated to our model????

Would any one be interested in starting one?

Is there be enough intere

Would there be enough entrents?

I used to race is a retro Bike series that you could only use old yamaha 250 two strokes, mainly aimed at the TZR 250 but we had a few old RDs buzing with us. Bloody great fun and cheap.

I was thinking of maybe chatting to a decent club and running a 206 unmodified series.....well only mods allowed are for race requirements. Keep it easy and cheap so it would mean road going cars with maybe brake up grades being the only thing allowed. All engines legable and you win trophy in your class.

Has it been done, thought about.......dumped as a bad idea???

Hi Chuck,
Randomly spotted this thread, I don't normally look around the forum much.
It would be extremely difficult to start a 206 race series. Not impossible, and with time it could work, but like I say, extremely difficult.
The best way would be to speak to an organiser that already runs a race for near-standard 2 litre hatchbacks and ask about the possibility of having a seperate class within the race for 206's. You would need to guarantee at least half a dozen I think (CSCC Tin Tops for example).
Bear in mind there is a vast amount of one make series out there (SaxMax, MGCC, Golf GTi, Max5, Mini 7/Miglia, BMW Compact, Nippon Challenge (Japs only), loads of Ford series') all looking to bolster their grids, so attracting drivers to 206's is going to be difficult. When drivers look at going racing, they generally decide if they want fwd or rwd/4wd, then look at what fits into their budget and what sort of racing they want (door banging or gentleman racers).
Theoretically, you could run a 138 GTi class and a 180 GTi class, with slightly different parameters to make a definite performance difference and therefore budget between the two (138- Specified springs and dampers, max tyre width 195, standard dash and door trims/internals. 180- Coilovers, 205 tyres, full race interior). But you'd need at least 16 cars at every event to stand any chance of having your own grid.

Like I say, there's a lot of choice out there, what would you do to make racers choose a 206 championship over Fiesta XR2/Golf GTi/Tin Tops/Saxmax championships? There's not even a French Car Championship, so narrowing it down to 206's makes me think it's a nice thought but never going to happen.
Hope that helps Smile

Big Hi Razza!

I very much appreciate your input as your racing and can see whats going on. I'm not in the car race scene any more, and it was bike racing that I have knowledge about.

Let me explain why I thought there might be interest. Or hope there would be! HAving owned a 206 now for while and been on here a little less, Ive seen the amount of cars that being scrapped that have life left in them. I know it keeps the parts bin full for those keeping them going like myself but it just seems a shame not to turn them into a usable toy. GTi's seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper and they would be ideal of course for a one make series. NO tuning allowed unless we ended up mixing in with another series as most of them will be of a sports/gti format with tuning allowed so a little tweeking to stay with the others. So, my feeling was why not create a series that mixes maybe what other series are doing and mix it all together. Not everyone can afford to race, not everyone can afford to run a GTi but alot of guys want to have ago around a track, be competative against each other but not be bankrupt at the end.
So, why not have a 206 series split into 3 catergories but all on one grid? Gti's and D-turbos, Non sports so petrol derived and Diesel , and maybe road legal ....ish. The cars are all std except equip to keep ya safe and and a strip out and maybe include tyre upgrades and brake upgrades being allowed, but thats it.....get it out there and run.

As said, it could just be a nice idea but not gonna happen. But if Saxmax works why cant 206, and even take them on.

What do ya think Raz? anyone ???

Honestly? I think you're dreaming Smile
People race because they want to race. They don't generally own a particular car, and think "I wish I could race this...". It does happen, I did it when I had a Reliant Scimitar that I gradually converted to race spec, but I bought it with the intention of doing motorsport in it in the first place.
The best you could hope for is something like the Alfa Championship or the Nippon Challenge, covering various models of car all on the same grid. I'm surprised there's no French Car Championship, a 2 litre class could be full of 205, 206, 306, Clio 172/182, Megane Coupe, Xsara VTS etc.
The Nippon Challenge has been around for about 5-6 years I think, had it's ups and downs but is now fairly well established. That was covering an entire "Genre" of cars rather than one particular model, and they still struggled to get it up and running.
