Hi all,
Just wondered to see if your able to help... I'm totally at a loose end!
This is what ive done....
About 3 weeks ago I got the engine management on the dash and the "Antipollution Fault" on the centre console.
Garage checked the codes and the codes are as follows:-
P0100 - FLOW SENSOR SIGNAL
P0481 - FAN SLOW SPEED CIRCUIT
The P0418 has been like that since I got the car. I've never had any problems with the radiator fan what so ever, so haven't changed the relays.
My mate at the garage stated its one of the following problems:
1/ Faulty wiring - FLOW SENSOR PLUG to the ECU.
2/ MASS AIR FLOW FILTER.
3/ ECU.
Firstly, we tried the cheapest option and checked all the wiring from the MAFF to the ECU. all the 5 wires had a good connection and work perfectly fine. That was after a 25 minute ordeal of seperating all the wires...
Codes cleared and shortly after the same faults appear?!
Secondly, I order a replacement MAFF, fitted it, worked fine.
Again, codes cleared and I drive home. All fine and dandy! I then get into my car a couple of hours later, guess what, same problem.
I go back to the garage and check the codes. Same as before???
Codes are cleared and I test the car in situ. Engine on, drive around, engine off, nothing?? Good.. I do this about three time, still no codes appear. I drive a short distance to the main gates and turn off the engine and type a text. Engine on, codes re-appear!!!??? That's not right surly!?
Back to the garage and i'm given to code reader and told to play with it to my hearts content. I test, then clear the same codes and try different things to see if they will just P*** OFF!
With NO joy, so I hand back the code reader and ask for the next suggestion.
It was suggested to drive home and take the battery lead off without re-starting the engine. This I did and left it a couple of hours. I reconnect the battery and never guess...... Yep, light on the dash and warning!
For gods sake, does this mean a new ECU? I have no clue with regards the ECU. I've seen them on ebay, some state they are ECU, ECU with key set and ECU full set? This I dont understand what I need???
The car runs as smooth as it always has done, no lag, no loss of power or anything.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP... Any suggestions are very much appreciated.
Regards
Hereford

how much did you pay for the MAF sensor?
a proper one cost over 100 quid i remember. Did you get the flow data from the sensor at all? And again on that plug not all of the wire is related to the air flow signal.
by any chances there is a leak in you air filter so that it damage the MAF?

Hi Seabook,
I paid £60 for my MAFF.
The data was 0.
I dont think that there is a leak anywhere as far as I can see?

I don't want to go out and pay £££'s for an ECU if that isnt the problem.
I dont know what to do for the best?

if you are sure the MAF is fine so as the harness you can only test the ecu

Ok, right'O.
How do I test the ECU?
Will I need an ECU + Key with the correct part numbers as mine? Or just ECU?

i don't think normal garage will know how to test a ecu, might be a auto electrician could test it.
and again you can't use 2nd hand ecu as i think the bsi, ecu and immobilizer are all coded together.

Ah right,
Got ya. Well ive been quoted £100 for ECU, SR Unit and Key.
As so long as the part numbers are the same.
I'll have to look into it, but it's now starting to do my head in... Just need it squared for piece of mind

i get this flash up-anti pollution fault-ive had a new exhaust for an unrelated reason and it didnt affect this but i find my car is running fine so i just ignore it....maybe im asking for trouble but with no fault except the displaying im not worried...seems like finely tuned instruments are prone to false readings and if you jump on these things everytime they appear you end up skint and neurotic/paranoid/car hyper condreact...
