Hi all,

When the cooling fan kicks in (at about 90deg) on my Pug it makes a loud horrible squealing noise.
I hope to buy a replacement fan (+motor) from a scrappy, but want to make sure I buy the correct one.

I believe the fan is different between petrol/diesel and ac/non-ac.

Does anyone know if there are any other versions? e.g. Different engine size? Different age of car?

Mine is a Y-reg 1.1L petrol without A/C.

Thanks all.

thanks

Does it squeel the entire time the fans spinning or fade out eventualy???it could be as simple as something fouling on the fan blades???

So its still best to check if its fouling on something as it spins...if u need to replace it go for a close match car and u cant go wrong...petrol...no air con...etc..etc..

I think the air con fan has two speeds? So you should avoid this one, I think any one for a similar sized petrol should be ok.

air con fan isn't two speed but the control system makes it run at two different speeds.

Sort off, but the fan doesn't have 2 speeds. The fan can have variable speed if that's how the control system is set up.

It seems that with you 2 whatever one puts, the other will have a problem with. You should either take the issues to PM and get them sorted, avoid having to post on the same thread and just agree that someone else has a different point of view or get a room, shag each others arses senseless and get all that testosterone out of your systems.

bezford: do you mean the fan is the same or the way speed is controlled makes it the same thing.

Some fans are genuinely two speeds and the speed is set by using different windings within the fan motor.

The Peugeot fan doesn't have seperate windings for seperate speeds it just switches a resistor into series with the fan windings thus reducing the voltage accros the fan windings and making it run more slowly.

Two very different ways of controlling speed. One is built into the fan motor windings and is a genuine two speed fan one is not. The Peugeot fan is a single speed fan controlled by changing the voltage applied to it.

Well im not batting for that particular team...but what i mean is it has the same effect so in this case is the same thing...

Its all irrelevant to the OPs problem so just get the closest match possible OP...ok.

No it isn't A genuine two speed fan is NOT interchangeable with a single speed fan with external resistor controlling the speed. So they are very different things.

EDIT: So a fan from a car with aircon MAY be interchangeable with one from a car without aircon. If the fan was a genuine 2 speed fan, and it isn't, it definitely would not be interchangeable without changes to the wiring.

OP - have a close look at the fan, even if it is from an Aircon car it may be interchangeable.

Im posting according to the current ops problem so if the fan is actualy only two speed becoz of the controller that makes it the same as the one speed pretty much...internally they are the same as the only two speed parts are only connected to the motor by wires...similarly like the one speed...

Its vital to comment on the current topic because thats who the advice is for....

macca1411: I am not deliberately arguing with bezford but he makes comments that are factually wrong and not always good advice - especially when it comes to electrical systems. You may note that there are threads that I haven't commented back on and in those bezford has offered good advice. In some threads I have supported his advice.

Regards the fan: the resistor is a fixed value and is either in series with the fan or bypassed. That means the fan, in this case, runs at one of two set speeds. Sorry if you already understood this.

I could pull your posts to bits aswell mate but unless there seriously gonna cause oroblems and someone would be daft enuf to listen to just your posts i cant be arsed...and dont need to because people can judge for themselves im sure..

.and while rhere is some sense in some posts u make i think that people need to use info from more sources than just you as when u give advice yourself...without following simeone elses ideas you really do stryggle on your own...NOTE.

Oh and that last entry about this poor fellas fan makes no sense when cross referenced with your previous posts...RUNS AT ONE OF TWO SET SPEEDS would mean all motors are the same just some run at one set speed and some run using both...

Again proving the speed adjustment is away from the motor and similar one and two speeds share the same motors ...yawn...yawn ..

Post considered, weighted and then ignored - except for this reply.

EDIT: and now I take notice of the private posts I have had and will ignore you.
