407sw has that feature, quite neat especially if a bulb like the sidelight or indicator has gone.

It's just another nanny feature on a car.
I can spot that I've got a headlight bulb out within 2 minutes of driving with it gone. Then i'm looking for the closest garage/shop that sells them if I've already used that type of bulb from my spare bulb kit.

It is.
LED's and even SMDs aren't as bright as the 21w filament bulb. I have a SMD in mine and although it's bright enough to pass the MOT, it's not as bright as I'd like, and a red P21 will be going in once I get to the retailers for a new stock of bulbs.
If you want to put something different in, try a CREE bulb.
