All,
If you lift your brake pedal is there a small amount of play and a knocking noise behind the dash? Mine is doing this and I don't think it should?
Also when I go over any significant bumps in the road (Not a speed bump) I get a similar knocking noise. I don't believe it is suspension related. It sounds like something plastic behind the steering wheel / speedo fuse box area of the car.
Any ideas?
Thanks

OK I have been trawling on google. I have found a couple of references to a knocking noise behind the dash and a loose pollen filter? Could this be it?
Where is it and why would it be loose?

Put your hand into the gap and you should be able to feel it.

Thanks Macca! You should be charging me for the amount of help recently |
I don't mind helping the ones who have a bit of common sense and don't spit their dummy out when you tell them something they don't want to hear.
If it's loose it could be. It only sits in place, no clips or anything.
I have a knocking from that area, but only happens on the first two corners as I leave the house. Sounds like something swinging and hitting the dash. Not got a clue what it is, and can't understand why it's only those corners.
It's normal for the brake pedal to have a bit of play, probably about upto half an inch.
Have you had your hand under the dash just to make sure there is nothing lose? A redundant connector or something like that. Might be worth getting your head under with a torch and having a look.

Thanks mate.
I think the torch and an expecition under the dash is a good idea.
Feel better knowing the pedal should have some play in it
I am going to see if the filter is loose and maybe change it. I would imagine the garage did not do it when I bought it.
We will see later......
