Afternoon Chaps & Chapettes
Just had the Pugani back from the garage fixing the door, (someone tried crowbarring it open and warped the door on the top left corner).
I asked them to quote me for fixing the following:
- Laquer peel to the tailgate (approx. 20cm x 10cm)
- Scratches to the O/S passenger door (someone reversed around a corner and scraped a wall, and you can see the white undercoat)
- Vinyl damage on the B-Pillar from the crowbar
- 10 dents from people opening their doors in car parks and hitting the car, (some have paint chips in the centre of them)
- Replacing the D/S door seal
They quoted me £700. Is this a bit excessive? I reckon it is, but that's just me.
The car is a W-reg 206 LX in KRU with 90,000 on the clock, so I think it may be cheaper to replace the car, since it's worth around £650. If I get the insurance involved, will they pay out at all for the repair, (bar my £250 excess), or favour paying me to replace it?
Would you recommend that I do a bit of cut & polish to the existing paint work to see if any of the scratches come out, and then get a requote?
Cheers!

Is it an insurance approved bodyshop that quoted you?

Independent. I've used them before for a small body repair after a bus clipped me, and it wasn't this expensive. The insurance company always ask me to get a quote from a garage, then they approve it and refund me the cost of the repairs

The door seal, vinyl panel & OS door could be replaced by yourself to bring costs down.
You could also replace the tailgate to bring costs down further.
Have you got a quote from a SMART repairer for the dents & paintwork damage?

I thought so, it's just quite hard to find a KRU tailgate down here.
I have looked at them, but I reckon it would be cheaper to do some cut & polish with a polish pad

Doesn't sound unreasonable to be honest as any paintwork will require blending in.
