Hi there! I'm very new to this forum and I'm reaching out for advice and help with an issue of mine to you generous souls of information on this forum...

I have a 2007 206 1.4 8vavle car and have been having some issues, surprise surprise....

The car is putting out quite a bit of white smoke, sounds quite grumbly from the exhaust pipe and idles at around 1100 rpm once started and settles to 800rpm after a few minutes.
Today, however, is the final straw of frustration. I was at the lights heading into work and all of sudden as I go to pull away in first gear the car jumps to 3000rpm and immediately drops to 1000rpm, judders, then stalls. Restart and it happens again, restart and it works?!?! and I proceed to go into work as normal.
Some mornings the car judders as I accelerate in 2nd gear and jolts but once warmed up a bit after 5 minutes goes away. I've always seen this as maybe just the cold weather e.t.c. But now I'm not so sure...

I checked the oil cap and it has some white sludge deep inside the plastic bits. The car never overheats, however, which I know is one of the signs of head gasket failure. The coolant level hasn't dropped and doesn't smell of exhaust gasses from the expansion bottle.

If any of you guys have experienced the above or have any advice for me please do share, it will be much appreciated!! Thank you.

Chuck a diagnostics on it and see if any codes pop up, and get it pressure tested. The mayo in the oil cap could just be from a bit of condensation from the cold weather we've had.

Thanks 'Macca', I was getting worried about the 'dreaded mayonnaise' if I'm honest haha.
The car had a timing belt change yesterday though along with water pump and fresh coolant. Do you think that if they're a 'tooth out' at timing it could make any of these issues arise?

And on a side note what are the reasons for a head gasket to fail? The car has only done 60k miles...

Head gasket failure is basically when coolant is getting where its not supposed to. Into the oil tracks and pistons, and oil enters the coolant. Water in the piston is a problem as it will not compress and knackers the pistons etc. Google it for a better explanation.

Timing belt might cause these issues but sounds like you've already been experiencing them. A big question would be whats the service history of the car? When did it last have the oil changed, filters, spark plugs etc? You'll be surprised what a good service can do.

Car had spark plugs, oil and both filters changed at 52k (8k ago).

I'm hoping a clean of the stepper motor may sort the choppy idle and possibly a new ignition pack and plugs could help. But as you can tell I'm firing in all directions trying to get a kill, which will probably end costing time and money serving no real purpose.

Have read online that even built up exhaust gasses in the box can cause the exhaust to crack and make the noise I'm experiencing as well as the misfiring-type tendencies.... Hmmm sooo many options!!!.... Until an ECU check i guess...
