Hi,
Had a 206 1.4 look and recently purchased a gti 180 on a 53 plate. After looking at various websites i found that the car should accelerate from 0-60 in around 7.4 seconds. obviously the car is going to lose a bit of power over the years. I raced my friend in his fiesta zetec s 52 plate (0-60 in 9.9 secs) and it was an even race. Any ideas what up?
Cheers, Tom.

Could be a number of things, any warning lights on?
First point of call is to get the codes read, failing that let all of his tyres down.
Of course it could always be the driver

Mk5/6/6.5 all have less than 110 brake and weight more than a 180. Plus a 180 if maintained correctly wont drop less than 170bhp @ fly unless its been thraped.
So, nothing wrong with the car, its more you dont know how to drive it.

Talking about "driving properly" when would you change gear when necking it?
Obviously people drive differently. Some change at 5500-6000 revs, some go to the red line and change at 7000

How many miles has your car done? What service history do you have? Are you running standard intake and exhaust or some crappy after market intake and filter - a great way to loose power.
A full service is a good start.
Have the cam belts every been changed? Who did it and do you know if the cam timing is spot on?
Is your car fitted with standard size wheels and tyres. If not what is fitted?
It may be worth having a compression test done - that is a very good indication of engine wear.
When racing and especially from a dead start you have to be really brutal with the throttle and clutch with snatched full power gear changes. If you do normal changes that is half a second or more lost. Are your changes full power and a tenth of a second or less?
If you want to see some brutal racing changes and an idea of how the manufacturers treat their cars when they set 0 - 60 times etc. go and watch some standing quarter drag racing and listen to the speed of the gear changes there.

the 180 will destroy that but after coming from turbos, i find the engine to be good but you must make full use of the gear box and take it just shy of the limit then shift gear you should be clear of the zetec by 2nd gear peak bhp is in the top end of the rev range on this engine takes a bit of getting used to if you are not used to high rpm engines
