Hi there,

I just bought this peugeot 206 a few days ago and decided to change the cd player.

I put the cd player in and now when I turn the ignition on I get "Immobiliser fault" on the display and the car won't start. The key fob stopped working too.

I was thinking I maybe unplugged something by accident but not sure.

Any ideas?

you will have blown one of the fuses down by the drivers knee i only know this as i have done the same before sorry but can't remember which one it is tho.

I just checked all the fuses and they are all fine.

Put your old cd player back in and see if it solves the problem

Can't give anymore help because there are 2 types of wiring system on a 206 and you haven't told us which one you have.

Read the Beginners Guide. It used to be sent as part of the welcome message to the inbox when people signed up but with the lack of staff activity on here now it may be one of the things that has stopped. If you don't have a link to it in your inbox, have a search of the forum and read it and it will explain how to identify which electrical system you're using.

The picture of the stock controls isn't showing but by looking at the fuse box specs I am pretty sure mine is a multiplexed. It is an 05 Quicksilver.

Also I had a look at pictures of the BSI fuse box online and noticed that my shunt fuse is a lot smaller looking than the ones in the pictures.

Yes you have a multi plexed car.

Disconnect the battery using the correct method, and check all the fuses using a multimeter. Often checking by eye, you miss the tiniest of breaks. Do this in both the engine fuse box and passenger fusebox.

Reconnect battery the correct way and see if the fault is still there.

Has anything else stopped working like the lights or wipers?

Thanks.

I don't have a multimeter but my friend is coming round tomorrow with one so will check all the fuses then. I couldn't see a fuse box in the passanger side, only the driver side and under the bonnet.

No all other electrics seem to be working apart from the cd player, both the old one and the new one.

I only just bought this car 2 days ago so hoping I don't have to fork out big bills to get it running.

The passenger fusebox is the one near the drivers knee, so you've found them both.

If the old unit was working and it isn't now, then sounds like something has blown somewhere.
Was it an aftermarket unit you were putting in or another OEM one?

Put the old one back in and check and replace if necessary fuses 4 (20 amp) 6 (10 amp) and 15 (15 amp) in the passenger fusebox and maxi fuses 5 (70 amp) 7 (30 amp) and 8 (30 amp) in the engine bay fuse box. All those fuses are connected to the radio.

You can make a simple tester using a bulb, length of wire and the battery, as alls you are checking for is the continuity.

It is an aftermarket stereo that I installed.

I will check the fuses tomorrow and see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Hey there,

I checked all the fuses and they were all fine. I did find the problem though but need info on why it is fixed as it seems very strange.

There was a couple of cables behind the CD player which were not connected to anything. One was a Blue cable and ones was a thin brown cable.

The picture in the link is one I edited because I forgot to take a picture of my own. There was a grey/pink looking cable connected in the place where I thought the blue one should be so I pushed the blue cable in the same slot as the grey/pinkish one and the immobiliser message went away and the car started working.

So in summary, the car is working as it was before and the new CD player is too but I am baffled as to how this fixed it and what grey/pink cable is for and also the thin brown on.

It seems that the multifunction display doesn't work properly so maybe that is what the brown cable is for? I read somewhere that the stocks control the MFD but they don't on mine and the auto functions (auto lights and wipers) don't work either, could this be related.

Well I found out that the brown cable is for the glove box bulb. haha

No idea why I have to cram the light pink coloured cable in the same slot as the blue one though.

Anyone have any ideas.

You're 100% sure about the fuses? The immo fuse is a 20A that also supplies half the car. Stupid design. Make sure you take them out and check them with the battery off the car.

Its NOT a stupid design.

If people want to d**k about with live electrical systems then what else do you expect.

There is a clear warning in the owners handbook about adding electrical items to the car & Peugeot sell ISO harness for adding an aftermarket radio.

Yeah, all the fuses are fine.
The problem was that the previous own fitted the wierd. He had crammed two cables into one slot in the ISO. No idea why but when it wasn't connected like that, the immobiliser would activate and the car obviously wouldn't start.
When I put the cables back the way he had it, the new stereo worked fine.

I didn't need an ISO for an aftermarket radio, as there was already an aftermarket radio. Also, the system wasn't live.
