Oh what a morning !!
think I left the light on over night so come out to the car and had a Bat Flattery..
Used a power pack and boosted the car - turned over fine and started driving to work.
3 miles down the road needed to brake, and pedal was very soft and went to the floor.. Had to resort to pumping the brakes in order to slow down or stop. Half way to work ( 20 miles ) the brake light started to flicker and now is on solid.
The issue with the pedals is a clicking feeling when letting off the clutch pedal and tapping the gas, you can feel the clicking sensation on both pedals.
I have checked for silly things like something on floor or floor mat catching but nothing !!
Am at work now and have quickly checked for brake fluid and leaks, fluid is ok and no leak.
I have ordered some brakes anyway as I do know the rear ones were making a scraping sound.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed.
Any resolutions from members of this forum that results in a fix of my issues, I will be making a donation to the site

Do you have ABS?
Detailed info about year, model etc. would be nice.

Peugeot 206 X reg (2000) 2 Litre HDI turbo Diesel.
3 Door

Check your brake fluid for starters.
And be careful driving obviously.

Also, disconnect battery for half an hour and then re-connect just incase the ABS ECU is confused since you messed with the electrics.
There is no re-boot procedure on a year 2000 (non-mux) 206.

Bugger! just walked out to the car hoping it was just going to be the ABS ECU and found a little oily puddle rear right wheel.
looked under car behind the drum and where the brake lines go in there is a little fluid, most of the fluid appears to be dripping from INSIDE the drum,
could this be because the brakes are indeed shot and the calipers ? are being pushed out too much ?
just emailed a pic of behind the wheel to attach here, bloody exchange is so slow so will add when it arrives.

That'll be the hydraulic piston cylinder which pushes the shoe against the drum.
Shoe wear should not cause it. Easy to fix once you get a spare part and can be done at the same time as shoe replacement.
Top-up brake fluid and be careful on your way back.

Slave cylinder..could be the rubbers and a possible recondition job.however im not sure of the prices but its probly just as good to fit a new slave cylinder when you change the shoes...
Calipers are on discs not drums.

Sounds like the wheel cylinder seals are shot and will need the cylinder replacing. Might as well do the shoes at the same time as they will be covered in brake fluid.
There was a time when you would chuck paint thinner on them and set fire to it to remove the fluid, but shoes are cheap enough now to just throw away. Old school methods still work though.
The clicking in both accelerator and clutch pedals sounds strange. This could be caused by the brake problem if it's a hydraulic clutch.
The only part the 2 pedals have in common is the pedal box. Get your head down under the dash and look for something catching possibly the return spring.

Hi Guys,
Just been googling and looked at drum again and yeah I think its gonna be the brake cylinder.
Called the missus and the brake shoes I ordered have arrived at home.
Think ill pop to the local motor-factors and buy a brake cylinder and take the day off tomorrow.
Have bought some Dot4 fluid ( £4 ) and have topped up some.
looks like a slow careful drive home tonight, fin work at 10pm so roads will be quieter.
I guess the average price is about £15 £20 for a new cylinder, am just hoping it will be easy(ish ) to fix,
will keep you posted,

All sorted,
Popped to a local brake/exhaust shop and mamaged to get a cylinder for £18. is was the wrong one in the end, was circular, bloke said will be circuilar or oval fitting, mine was like a block shape.
The shoes that came off were down to the metal ( opps ) but lucklily the cylinder had just pushed out, took this off and cleaned it up and checked all the seals, all look new.
new shoes on, refitted same cylinder and bleed system and all is well.
I will be buying a fitting cylinder and will replace, least i have car for now.
Apparently there are 4 different fitting of rear cylinders for Pugs 206 x and before.
