Hello,
Firstly ,I really like my 206 some times lol and have had so many things wrong with it but haven't the major funds to get a new one only fix mine,

Problem is that it's broke again and it's possibly clutch related but I'm not sure.

Firstly when I pressed the clutch to go into reverse I heard a clunk then it wouldn't go into gear.

Upon calling the garage they told me to put the car into first and turn the engine on, this resulted in the car jerking forward.

Ican just about get the car going forward but only if I put my foot down quite far which smells like I'm burning it out :S

I had a friend press down on the clutch and can see the end of the cable just above the gear box on the passenger side of the engine underneath the air intake pipe moving in and out when he was pressing it.

What the heck has gone on my car as I'm willing to get a new clutch but would like to try and avoid it if possible.

Thanks for any help

Start the car. Leave handbrake on and put in first gear. Now release the clutch pedal as if you are about to drive away.
Does the engine stall?

When the engine is idling and you press the clutch pedal, are there any noises coming from the gearbox or bell housing?

I'm thinking pressure plate or release bearing may have failed from what you have said already.

When i put it into first it jolts forward but doesn't seem like it wants to stall :S there's no weird noises although before the disaster it used to make a churping noise when my foot was not on the clutch, when i put my foot down on the clutch it would stop. now that noise has gone completely :S

It should stall. Maybe the clutch needs replacing.

That's the clutch bearing, it has now probably collapsed and broken apart so it will most likely be a new clutch assembly required

It should stall in 1st with the hand-brake firmly on that is.

Might just be the bearing but it could have damaged clutch in there as Deckchair5 said.

For the price difference between a clutch kit and just the bearing, it's a no brainer to get the whole lot done.
It could be the fingers on the pressure plate that caused the bearing to fail in the first place, so cheaper to get the whole clutch done now than to have to pay another £200 for the box to come back out in another 6 months if the bearing went again.

Highly unlikely on a TU3 lump, there basically bulletproof.

Just got a call from the garage that it initially was all sorted but they couldn't select any gears when the car was off the ramp. I've looked into this and all points to one part being put in the wrong way round. lol, any way found this site :

www.cartoq.com/when-to...ing-signs/

My clutch hadn't actually failed but the pressure plate teeth??? were bent out of shape which caused the problem, but i'm not to fussed so had the whole thing replaced all in for around £210 inc VAT Smile

Good to have the whole clutch assembly done, absolutely pointless messing about with anything less

The clutch pressure plate fingers bent in because the clutch thrust bearing was seizing up and scored a groove in the fingers just like a grinding wheel which weakened the fingers to the point where they just collapsed

Doesn't sound so good that the garage was incapable of putting things back together properly on a very routine job. Check if they replaced the clutch cable too as that's essential for certain types of cable as they don't ratchet back, they will only go one way to take up the slack
