Could be one of a million things, and not necessarily related to the emissions.

Same engine as yourself, had this problem a while back, (good mechanic) told me cat was blocked, no diagnostics on it at that point.
Was told to give it a good thrashing, low gears, high revs, light went off hour later.
Worth a try, but like steve says could be other things.
I now put 10k boost power restorer every 6 months through the air inlet, all the s**te that comes out is unbelievable. Failed emmisions last MOT this sorted it.

Must point out, i first tried a fuel additive product first from GFS, £14 which i was, assured would work, failed miserably after a MOT retest.
I then went to a mechanic i use, and he guaranteed me to use this stuff £25.
Used half the can (spray) and flew through emissions test.
Just looked at package and is made by Granville, and can buy it for petrol or diesel

No not a quick fix, blasts all the crap out of the system thats been building up over time, a lot of taxi drivers use it as well because they do a lot of town driving.

I've used it not too long ago. Not muck black smoke came out back so suppose engine pretty clean. Seemed a bit poker than before ... Was worth the fiver from Halfords.

FIXED.

Replaced brake sensor and replaced throttle sensor H20cooler reset my fault codes and no anti pollution fault anymore. Emlight no longer on.

Brake sensor was noticeably burnt out inside, throttle sensor requires special tool to access internallly so £20 one from breakers seems to work fine.
