I have recently bought my first 206 gti which is great motor. Only issue is that when i start the car the headlights automatically come on whenever i start the car, i assume they have been re-wired this way and is it easy to rectify as i feel like a complete retard driving around in daylight with main light on.
Start car : main lights on even on setting when light should be off.
Turn to dipped beam is fine (normal) and turns off main beam
bit confusing i know but any advice would be grateful.
PS i Have checked all bulbs are ok and replaced any not working

So your main beam is coming on with the ignition?
I was going to suggest the auto light sensor was dodgy, but it sounds like you say that they have been rewired, or possibly a faulty light stalk.
What's the year of the car and which headlamps are fitted? It's possible someone may have made a hash of the wiring if they have swapped lights.

Dodgy auto light sensor if you have them. If so could try turning the auto function off.

It Is an 02 plate and yes that's right they come on with the ignition. I will possibly get a Haynes manual anyway
For the car as I am not as mechanically savvy as you fellas. So will research into that auto sensor I will try and upload a photo of car as I presume the lights are the standard ones which were originally put on car

The sensor is behind the rear view mirror.

Thanks hopefully this link works. |
Link works better when you put [img] [/img] either side of it
Looks like it has the auto sensor to me. Can't understand why main beam would come on though or why anyone would rewire it so that they came on with the ignition.
When your dipped beam is on and you turn main beam on, what happens?
I'm starting to think that the connectors have been put on the wrong way round ie dipped plug to main bulb and main plug to dipped bulb.

Start car ignition. All lights come on dipped and main. Stalk is set in off position
Turn to dipped beam on stalk this then knocks main beam off and when I want main beam I just turn stalk to main beam position
It's just when the lights stalk is in off position but car is running the dipped and main are still on. Hope my explanation doesn't confuse
Thanks for advice with photo upload info
