I've noticed recently when im in slow traffic my water temp gauge is going up into the red (its happened twice) and he 'stop' light is flashing on the dash. Ive noticed that the temp reading quickly drops when the car picks up speed. Any ideas?

More likely to be corroded relay terminals or the wiring to the relay is corroded through. The 2 x relays are behind the panel on the radiator housing.
