hi all, i have a 2000 reg 206 gti i have charged the coolent gas while car is off then when i turned on the engine and the a/c button the compressor made the tick sound and went off byitself just one second to from turning on the a/c then i pressed off the a/c botton and on again but the compressor didnt tick, but when i turned off the engine and waited for 3 minutes and turned on the engine again with the a/c button on the compressor ticked in again for one second and went off again by itself there is no gas leak or anything and ive been living with this for 3 years i cant find a solution can any one help?? and i tested the compressor using an external cable to the battery and it worked with no problems and even cooled so well so that means the clutch is working so its an other issue that i cant discover till now ..... really it will be a greatfull help if anyone could help me with this... Confused

You can't charge the A/C properly without the compressor and the system running so you can't do it with the engine and compressor off, all you can do is put in an initial charge until there is enough system pressure for the A/C pressure transducer to allow the compressor to start. If there is too little pressure ( or too much) it wont allow the compressor to start.

If you don't know what you're doing then you'll be far better off taking it to an aircon engineer who should vacuum down the system, recharge and hand it back all running perfectly
