Exhaust Rattling off Torsion Bar?

Hi Guys, recently been hearing a rattling noise from the rear end of my car - had a look and noticed one of the exhaust's rubber hangers had split completely, and the other one was wearing away - this was actually causing the exhaust to rattle off the rear bumper.

I have since replaced the faulty hangers, but the noise is still there. I had another look under the car and realised the back box is very close to the torsion bar (the rear was lowered before I bought it) - whenever I'm on a bumpy road the exhaust is rattling off the torsion bar (If anything, replacing the rubbers has brought the two closer together)

What's the best fix for this? Is there a simple solution or am I looking at having the rear heightened a bit to give the two bars a bit more clearance?

Any advice is appreciated.

Suspension height wont change the torsion bar to exhaust clearance. All I can suggest is that you get slightly longer exhaust rubbers.

Cheers for the response. The ones I received are about 67-69mm - the largest I can find on eBay is 80mm. Hopefully that will be enough of a difference.

Edit: On further inspection the distance between both holes is till only 32mm so it won't make a difference. Looking at the exhaust itself, it has a downward curve near the back-box which looks like it's to accommodate the torsion bar, but it's a few inches closer to the front end of the car.

I know that the exhaust was replaced recently, so it's probably not an original part.

I've an idea...but would it work? Each exhaust rubber is replaced by a large jubilee clip...you'd have to find a way of making sure it didn't slide off the brackets but it would be adjustable too. Maybe some small jubilee clips could be used to lock the large one in place....bit of a bodge though.

Maybe the brackets on the exhaust aren't right?

The jubilee clips will just cause a rattle as they vibrate! Wink (Been there and done that, and I still have one causing an issue too!)

Your best bet is to 'bend' the exhaust hanger a little to give you the drop you are looking for. I think last time I saw someone lining up an exhaust for me, this involved a crowbar! Wink (I personally wouldn't try this as I don't know the underside of the car very well)

I'll have a look at the hangers and see if I can twist them round a bit but I don't think there's much give. Just strange that it's only started happening recently.

As a temporary measure, you could place some flameproof material between the exhaust and the torsion bar. It would stop the rattle and prevent the exhaust wearing through where it's rubbing until you can find a more permanent solution

It looks to me that the pipe we can see,the centre section needs twisting on its fittings as its been put on wrong or twisted its way around a bit on a bump or similar...
This will need 10° or so towards the o/s where it meets the front pipe/box and approx.7° towards the rear of the car at the join with the backbox...This will bring the dog leg down and stretch the rubbers when fixed tight putting everything back where it should have been to start with.

If you cant loosen the exhaust clamps and the joins try hanging the rubbers from the outer ring on the rubbers they should stay put...

Although the exhaust was close, he's lowered it a little and now reckons its the rear axle bush. I've ordered a set and he'll change them when they arrive.

Is it safe enough to drive the car in the meantime (I won't be going far) or should I try and use it as little as possible?
