Got an MOT coming up soon so wanting to finally get the airbag light on my 206 done. It's a 2000 pre plex with only a drivers airbag.
I was just driving along and all of a sudden it started flashing, and did do for a while, but since then it's had periods of a minute or 2 up to half an hour or so where it will go out completely.
I've had the seats and carpet out and only found plugs with no sockets so can't do the standard solder fix and I've replaced the battery in the time it's been on so guessing it can't be that. Haven't got access to any diagnostics at the moment, so any ideas for now?

Short term advice: Take the bulb out!
Long term advice... fix it properly.

Bulb has to light on start up so hiding the bulb won't work. Get it diagnosed. Might save your life.

Thought a broken bulb was only an advisory?

If there isn't a bulb there to indicate a problem it cannot be failed on a fault that it does not show. However a missing bulb is an advisory for the missing bulb itself, not a fail.
For example: Removing the bulb used to be and still is in some (bodged) cases used to get around using aftermarket steering wheels; nowadays however most just use th correct boss kits with the correct wiring to by pass it.

Will get it done at the garage if I can't fix it but just wanted to see if there was anything I could do now to make it a bit cheaper, since it seemed to me it may not be anything permanently broken since it came on without any sortve cause and goes off completely every now and then (after the initialisation period where it's lit).

The rotary switch is a known weak spot on the non plexed 206's.
Also heard of 2 reported cases of the airbag being fired when the driver operated the horn

A missing ABS bulb is a fail as it may affect vehicle safety by not indicating a warning that the ABS system has a fault.
A missing EML is an advisory.

But that relates to the ABS & ESP, does it apply to the airbag light as well then because it doesn't mention it or relate to it on that page?
I was under the impression it didn't based on what I've been told and read, happy to be corrected otherwise, especially as I'm looking at steering wheels.

Sorry wrong page. Been a long day sat on a motorway and moved 1 mile in almost 2 hours, and then when I was stationary next to a broken down vehicle I had some p***k in a BMW telling me to move because he had permission from the police to drive down the hard shoulder as his mate (who was actually the driver of the BMW) was diabetic and was about to slip into a coma. Let him go as I knew there was an unmarked four cars in front of me. He only made it a couple of hundred yards. When I finally passed, he was sat in the back of the police car being given a piece of paper.

This also answers your question about steering wheels. If the airbag is obviously missing, it's a fail. There is a clause if the vehicle is modified and predominantly used as a track car.

Thanks for the info though, probably best I speak to my rather friendly mot tester in regards the wheel to see where I stand.
