I have a 1.4 petrol T registered when travelling the speedo used to work normally but recently it has gone upto 90/100/110 mph and seems to fluctuate around that figure even though im only travelling at 10/20/30 in traffic etc. When i park up the speedo does not reset itself to 0. You can make it go back to zero though by turning the ignition on and off about 15 times each time you turn it off the speedo needle drops a few mph eventually getting back to zero. The next time you use the car it may be fine for a while before going crazy again.
I do not fancy going to GSF and buying the sender unit if thats not going to solve the problem.
Any help or ideas anybody.

Change the clocks (get a cheap set from the scrapyard for £10 or less) before you go out buying parts like a speed sender unit.

Clock change is the best solution. Get one from a scrappy.
Really easy to change. Happened to mine, changed the clocks and had the mileage from the old clocks reset to the original mileage.
Clocks are also different depending on phase 1 and 2 cars so be careful when you buy them

The motor inside is knackered. Only need to change this if you are short of money. Or, you could swap the rev counter motor to the speedo one. They are the same.
